Gallagher Bassett, Australia's leading provider of claims and risk management solutions, has announced the launch of Mobile Case Management (MCM) services for employers and injured workers in New South Wales (NSW). The MCM model is an innovative development by Gallagher Bassett, offering one-on-one case management and tailored, in-person, services for specific injuries. This approach has demonstrated its effectiveness in South Australia (SA) by providing more effective support to employers and improving return-to-work outcomes for injured employees for over a decade.

Gallagher Bassett's Executive General Manager — SA and NSW Josh Newberry is thrilled to be bringing the MCM model to the NSW workers' compensation market.

"The goal of our MCM service is to deliver real time face-to-face support in the workplace", said Newberry.

"Gallagher Bassett's mobile case managers are attending worksites and medical practices and meeting key stakeholders wherever they're needed. In doing so, we're empowering our case managers to attain the best possible recovery outcomes. This isn't a pseudo internal rehab model or support. The mobile case manager owns the claim, is the decision maker and is responsible and accountable for the outcome."

To deliver the service, Gallagher Bassett is partnering with its clients to co-design and implement personalised health and return-to-work strategies that meet the needs and expectations of their employees. These strategies involves early identification of employee profiles, environmental and operating risks, and unique requirements of each workforce.

On what makes the MCM different from competitor services, Newberry cited the wealth of experience and expertise within Gallagher Bassett: "Our mobile case managers take a hands-on approach to design a tailored recovery pathway for the employee. They're expert claims handlers with all of Gallagher Bassett's tools and data at their disposal, connected with mental health consultants and general practitioners every step of the way."

He adds, "Autonomy and ownership over decision-making are paramount for our case managers. Case loads are capped at 25, ensuring each manager can build those critical face-to-face relationships with injured workers, employers and health professionals. It's all in service of better health and return to work outcomes."

Gallagher Bassett's new offering hits the market as the NSW government introduces further reforms to the state Workers' Compensation Scheme. February's legislation changes are set to redefine psychological injury thresholds and entitlements, and will require claims handlers to adapt their practices accordingly.
